Stop ACTA! Help us!

Posted: July 10, 2010 in Uncategorized

We are the Internet Freedom Movement. We were founded on the 7th of July 2010, and our purpose is to stop the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).

ACTA is a multinational treaty that is being negotiated in secret since 2007 between the US, Europe, Japan and several other countries with involvement of several big industry concerns, among them well known ones such as Disney, Time Warner and Viacom. Its supposed purpose is to combat piracy and counterfeiting, however this treaty will heavily impact:

-Civil rights, such as free speech, privacy as well as the assumption of innocence.
-The free Internet
-The market for generic medicaments

ACTA will destroy your freedom, the internet as we know it today, and will threaten the lives of millions of people, especially in developing countries, who rely on cheap and affordable meds.

What can you do?

You have to raise awareness of this treaty. There is a reason it is kept secret: they know it will piss off people. Spread the word, by any means possible (friends, social networks, blogs…).
Contact newspapers and politicians and tell them that you are opposed to ACTA, and that they should speak up against it.

Visit our website here: http://www.anti-acta.com and join us in IRC http://n0v4.com/irc.web.php?channel=antiactaplanning

Also, please sign the petition on this website http://www.stopp-acta.info

We need your help to stop ACTA! Act now, before it is too late!
